Chenyu Li is an assistant professor of Foundations and Secondary Education at IUSB. His interest in education began when he volunteered at a rural school in Himachal Pradesh, India. He later taught bilingual social studies for four years at a public high school in Flushing, New York, which served a large population of migrant students. This experience inspired him to pursue a Ph.D. in social studies education, with a focus on migrant youths’ experiences in history classrooms.
Before joining IUSB, Chenyu taught preservice and in-service teachers at Teachers College, Columbia University, where he also supervised student teachers in New York City public high schools. His research interests include migrant education, civic education, transnational citizenship, and issues concerning Asian Americans. A native of Beijing, Chenyu received his Ph.D. and M.A. in Social Studies Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. He received his B.A. in economics and international global studies from Brandeis University.
