Become an Elementary School Teacher

Welcome (future) Elementary Education students! You have a passion for working with youth and a desire to inspire and guide children during some of their most formative developmental stages. IU South Bend's elementary education teacher preparation program is nationally recognized by the Association for Childhood Education International (ACEI). Earn your bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and learn how to teach children in kindergarten through sixth grade (K-6)!

Earn one degree—prepare for two licenses!

Upon earning your Bachelor of Science in Education (B.S.Ed.) in Elementary Education, you will be prepared to pursue licensure as an Elementary Generalist for grades K-6 in the State of Indiana. In addition, Elementary Education students must select a particular concentration. This concentration provides an opportunity to further explore a particular area of interest and prepares you to pursue the relevant additional license after degree completion.

Available concentrations:

  • Early Childhood (Grades Preschool-3)
  • English Language Learners (Grades K-6)
  • Special Education/Exceptional Education (Grades K-6)
