Scholarships

Designed to encourage greater diversity in the local teaching profession by providing financial support to underrepresented students who are pursuing a degree in teaching, especially in hard-to-fill areas. This scholarship is renewable.

Awarded to seniors enrolled in the teacher education program at IU South Bend who are participating in student teaching.

Awarded to support students in the School of Education at IU South Bend.

Designed to support diverse young people who want to become teachers in the Michiana region.

 Designed to encourage diversity and to provide financial support to underrepresented students (defined as Black, Hispanic, male, etc.), who are admitted to the graduate program in Counseling and Human Services in the School of Education at Indiana University South Bend. This scholarship is renewable.

Awarded to full- or part-time undergraduate students in the School of Education who have been admitted to the Teacher Education Program and who are single parents, working outside the home a minimum of 15 hours per week.

The Marian V. Pelking Memorial Early Childhood Education Scholarship was named in honor of Marian V. Pelking, an IU South Bend School of Education graduate who was dedicated to education for young children and adults. Ms. Pelking earned many accomplishments during her teaching career in Indiana and New Mexico - including a Presidential Award for Excellence in Science and Math Teaching, New Mexico Teacher of the Year, and the Milken Award for Education. The Marian V. Pelking Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing licensure in early childhood education who meets GPA and other requirements. This scholarship is renewable.

Named in honor of Richard D. Watson and designed to further the mission of Indiana University.

Awarded to undergraduate students in the School of Education, this scholarship is designed to support diverse young people who want to become teachers in the Michiana region. This scholarship is renewable.

Designed to honor the memory of Carl P. Horneman and to further the mission of Indiana University.

Named in honor of Susan Bowers, an IU South Bend graduate who practiced speech pathology in public and private schools in Illinois, Indiana, and Ohio. She believed a solid education is important in helping children overcome physical and mental disabilities. This scholarship is renewable.

Established by her former 1st grade teacher Carolyn M. Kovasics-Tihen, this scholarship is designed to help local students pursue and advance a professional career in teaching. This scholarship is renewable.

Named in honor of educator Wayne Krepel. Awarded to undergraduate juniors or seniors who display leadership and commitment to teacher education.
