Jeremy received his doctoral degree in Counselor Education and Supervision from Western Michigan University with specializations in substance abuse, couples and family counseling, and supervision. He holds a masters degree in psychology from Valparaiso University and a bachelor's degree in psychology from the University of Michigan. Outside of academia, Jeremy has provided mental health and substance abuse counseling in prisons and jails, community agencies, and private practice settings. His current research revolves around using music as an pathway to improved mental health.
In addition to his academic work, Jeremy provides guitar lessons as a volunteer for Guitars for Vets (guitars4vets.org), a not-for-profit organization that shares the healing power of music with Veterans impacted by PTSD and other service-related trauma. Jeremy also provides guitar lessons in mental health and addictions settings. When not teaching, researching, or playing music, Jeremy enjoys family time with his wife, four children, and three dogs.
