Dr. Shepherd earned his Ed.D in Special Education from Ball State University. He earned his M.S. in Education in Emotional Disturbances from Indiana University South Bend and his B.S. in Education in Social Science Education from Indiana State University. He taught history for the Houston Independent School District, and for the Family and Children's Center in Mishawaka, Indiana. After receiving his M.S. in Special Education, he taught children with emotional and behavior disorders for Joint Educational Services in Special Education in Plymouth, Indiana, for eight years. He began his career in higher education as an Assistant/Associate Professor of Special Education at Texas A&M International University in Laredo, Texas, in 1998. Since 2007, he has been an Associate Professor of Special Education and Department Chair at Indiana University South Bend. Dr. Shepherd is currently an Associate Dean at the School of Education at Indiana University South Bend.
