IUSB CC Clinic Policies

Appointments

We are accepting new clients and also maintain a wait list to be seen in our clinic. All initial contact to request services starts from the “Request Service” page. Once an individual contacts the clinic, a staff member will perform a phone screening to help determine if/how the clinic can be helpful by providing counseling services or a referral to another counseling agency/practice. After the call, the information is reviewed and if appropriate, the clinic will call to schedule an intake appointment. All appointments, in-person and tele-health, are initiated at the IUSB CC Clinic physical location using secure technology.

Scope of Practice Limitations

As a training clinic there are some clinical issues for which we are unable to provide treatment. These include:

1. Couples or family counseling where there is active or a recent history of interpersonal partner violence (i.e., domestic violence), child abuse, sexual abuse or violence, emotional and/or economic abuse, or credible threats of harm of any kind.
2. Active psychosis that is currently not under treatment by a medical professional.
3. Formal and in-depth assessments for any potential psychiatric disorder.
4. Court-ordered treatment of any kind.
5. Sex offender treatment.

Please note, we also do NOT offer crisis, walk-in, or after-hours services.

Cancellation Notice

Please provide the clinic with 48-hour notice of cancellation for an appointment.  If a client cancels or does not show up for an appointment 3 times, they will be discharged from services and to re-engage, they will complete the Request Services form.

Academic Calendar

The IUSB CC Clinic follows the academic calendar and accepts appointments when the University is open.  Client appointments are not scheduled during semester breaks (e.g., December-January break) or when the campus is closed: Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, etc.).

Adverse Weather Closings

If weather conditions are severe, IU South Bend may close the campus. When campus is closed, the Community Counseling Clinic is also closed. All appointments for that time period are cancelled and will be rescheduled.

Please listen to local radio or television stations for closing announcements, or visit the following websites to check:
